Evaluation of proposal

I have presented my work to the class which gave me feedback on my magazine. I was told that I should change the name of the magazine because it doesn’t really suit the type of magazine which I have in mind. Other people liked the name because it gave them the effect I was hoping it would have on everyone else. I think I would change it as I can do a lot better with a better name. The pictures I take have also got to correspond with my title so it looks attractive. As I haven’t chose my colours yet, I had some suggestions from other people such as black, white and red or yellow, white and grey. The colours I choose depends on the colour of clothes that the models wear. I didn’t have many ideas on my design features, this made it a little it hard for me as I didn’t have anything to compare and to choose from my target audience is still the same and I can do this by having teenagers in my magazine to support my target audience. This can also show the gender I am aiming at as I want my magazine to be targeted at both males and females. My case study has helped me come up with some ideas for my magazine such as angles I could take pictures on and how the title and the image look good together. I have had a look at other magazines other than R’n’B so I can think of other ways to make my magazine look good. My class gave me feedback about my distribution methods and publisher, they thought my idea was effective as my publisher hasn’t yet published an R’n’B magazine.

In this task, I was asked to take pictures of magazines so that I can analyse the different techniques that is being used.  I have found out that the mastheads are all the top of the page and it is big and bold. The reason for this is so that it attracts the reader’s attention and it’s the first thing that they will notice. The masthead is in different forms of house styles, colours and sizes. This makes the magazine look eye-catchy. The image used on the front of the page is usually of one person – this is called a cover star. They are usually in the double page spread. I have noticed that the image is in front of the masthead. This gives it a more effective look and makes the cover star stand out from the magazine as this is the first thing people will look at. The cover lines are surrounded around the image and it’s written in a list. The cover lines are in different sizes but there is usually one of the cover lines which are bigger than all of it. This is because that main cover lines relates to the double page spread.

There are many ways magazines get distributed like online or on mobiles as an app. It can get distributed on the radio or as hand outs. There are also many publishers that produce magazines. Bauer, IPC, NatMag are all publishers that produce music magazines.

Evaluation of college magazine

I have created a college magazine so that I can gain some experience in using Photoshop and InDesign. I have uploaded my college magazine onto blogger and I have had some feedback. In my college magazine, the feedback I got from my questionnaire was good. I used a basic colour scheme as it is just a college magazine, in the front cover, I have written in a white text as it stands out the pictured background. The response I have had for my colour scheme is that I have used good colours. Most of the people who did my questionnaire have agreed that I have used good colour scheme. Another question I have on my questionnaire is about what they liked about my magazine. The feedback was that I have used good colours and pictures. Another question in my questionnaire is if there is anything I could improve on and I got mixed answers. Some of the answers were more cover lines, more texts and so on. Another question I used in my questionnaire is what they would like to see in future magazines. Some of the responses I got were more features, information and cover lines. The feedback I got from my magazine wasn’t that good; however, I am planning on improving my skills towards using Photoshop or InDesign and my ideas on a magazine so that it could help with my music magazine.

What I think went well in the making of this college magazine is the colours I used as it was done effectively. I also think that my page layout and structure was good as it look appealing. The use of text was good although I could work on more catchy cover lines .i think I could improve on my photography and the angle of the picture because the picture is the main thing that attracts people to read the magazine. I could also work on my Photoshop skills as it needs improving.

Three key point for development when producing my music magazine is my skills in using both Photoshop and InDesign. Another point is my picture skills. I need to work on my accuracy and angle of the photo. And finally, another point is to think of is the type of font and text size as this can catch the reader’s attention when reading the magazine.
